Challenge

A manufacturer of iconic cars decided to offer connected car services to their customers to deliver new enriched in-vehicle infotainment experiences and to catch up with the competition. By implementing the ability to collect connected car data, they would also strengthen their customer relationships and data analytics capabilities. The desired outcome was to offer a competitive set of services such as private emergency call, breakdown call, stolen vehicle tracking, vehicle status and health, and remote services to their customers globally. Given the annual production volume and slim organization, it was important to deliver a connected platform solution with an optimal total cost of ownership. In addition, short time to market was critical.

Solution

To meet the needs of the company, WirelessCar proposed its suite of cost-efficient products that offer global availability, compliance and advanced security, instant deployment, and a high level of standardization – limiting customization needs. These API-based products implement car connectivity, service provisioning, retrieval of vehicle data and notifications, remote services, and call center services.

  • The car communication is established through the MQTT based WirelessCar communication protocol.
  • Factory and customer data are fetched from ERP and CRM systems for vehicle provisioning and service life cycle management.
  • Vehicle status data, journeys and remote commands are made accessible to drivers based on integrations with a driver companion app.
  • For call services, call center providers integrate their systems with WirelessCar APIs to get relevant data about vehicle and occupant conditions.
  • The connected car platform is completely open and future-proofed, not locking down the customer. From this first delivery, additional services and solutions can added by WirelessCar or other partners.

Outcome

The project to provide the services from Europe, North America and China was completed in the expected 18 months and according to the agreed budget. As a result, the customer could offer connected services with their new vehicle launch and meet market expectations. The customer’s end users subsequently benefited from a more personal and convenient car ownership experience, strengthening brand loyalty.
